About the artist

B. 1992

BASED IN LA JOLLA, CA

Maryam Miller is an abstract landscape painter exploring how places feel and are remembered.

Since committing to painting full time, she has built her practice around returning to landscape as a source of feeling, rather than a fixed subject to record.

Miller's paintings sit between fast, gestural mark-making and slower, deliberate structure. Working in oil on canvas, she builds each piece in layers, applying color drawn from the memory of how a place felt, until the piece feels resolved.

She treats landscape as something lived with over time, not seen once and painted. Because the work comes from memory, it stays personal without settling into a clear scene, leaving room for the viewer to bring their own memory of place into it.
